In the Netherlands, Kofi Annan's initiative was immediately supported by the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies (CHGS) and the CIDI Youth Organisation (CIJO), which organised a day for high school pupils and students at the University of
Amsterdam in January 2006. At the same time, a symposium for students took place at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. The focus on these events and the results of the first Holocaust Memorial Day were impressive.
That is why in the following years the initiators organised special educational programmes for high school pupils and university students in collaboration with the Dutch Auschwitz Committee and other organisations.
