An organisation subordinate to the SS and the German government with the purpose of supervising officials who were responsible for the secret service, security service, and criminal investigation department, including the Gestapo and the SD.
The Nazi regime's police and espionage activities were coordinated from this headquarters, with the specific purpose of deporting and exterminating millions of Jews. The headquarters was set up by Heinrich Himmler and the operation was led by Reinhard Heydrich. After his death, Ernst Kaltenbrunner took over.
