As the most senior SS and police official, the Austrian Hanns Albin Rauter was one of the leaders of the German administration in the Netherlands. During large actions, which required the coordination of all the available forces (February Strike, Arbeitseinsatz, April-May Strike), Rauter functioned as the commanding officer. Rauter was also closely involved in the persecution of Jews.
