Between July 1942 and September 1943, the island of Raba was used as an Italian concentration camp. The camp held 10,000 prisoners. In Rab, 1200 prisoners died of starvation or as a result of other gruelling circumstances. In addition, 800 prisoners from Rab died while being transported to other camps.
