Albert Konrad Gemmeker (1902-1987) was the camp commander of the Westerbork transit camp. His stately and kind appearance led him to be nicknamed the German gentleman. He supervised the issue of the weekly deportation lists but also encouraged leisure pursuits in the camp through sports and entertainment.
After the war he was sentenced to a 10 years imprisonment.
