Dachau was one of the first concentration camps in Germany. It was located near Munich. Dachau was the model for other concentration camps. The camp was set up in 1933 for political prisoners. An SS training school was located on the grounds, and the recruits ‘practised' on prisoners. After Kristallnacht (Night of Broken Glass) tens of thousands of Jews were imprisoned temporarily at Dachau. Many were forced to work in the war industry at one of the Aussenkommandos (external sub-camps) around Dachau.
