Term used by the Nazis to designate members of the supposedly superior German race. The word Aryan is originally from India and means a person who is noble or aristocratic. The Nazis believed that the Germanic people were a separate race, superior to all other people. Distinctive criteria were listed in the Nuremberg Race Laws.
